Environmental VASTU is not a topic which has a specific definition. It is how to lead life in a healthy atmosphere, it highlight the importance of trees, flowers and other vegetations.
      It is related with the environment, atmosphere or surroundings and does not simply means with architectural aspect alone. If the building from all sides forms a clean environment and is maintained as an outcome of entry and exit of pure and impure energies through air, from all directions. At the same time we get the required amount of oxygen and other energies and if, their, is a courtyard then it also provides sun rays and open sky with the energies.
      Environmental VASTU means proper environment and surroundings without missing any of the aspects like atmosphere, vegetation and flowers, architectural aspects. Therefore, the environmental energies are received in the house through doors, windows, ventilators, walls and roofs. The walls of the house and the house itself, is the third skin of protection for our body.
      Firstly, nature has made our skin to protect our body Secondly, we wore clothes to protect our skin and thirdly we live in a house, to protect our body and to safeguard it from the sun, wind, rain and seasonal changes. But simultaneously, we require environmental energy to inhale for survival. “HENCE THE BUILDING MATERIAL SHOULD BE OF SUCH NATURE WHICH, DO NOT HINDER THE ENVIRONMENT TO ENTER THE HOUSE”.
      Building materials are the 'building blocks of life'. We depend on them for shelter as we do on food, water and air for substance. The world consists of vast number and variety of natural chemicals and materials, all independent and all interlinked in a planetary organism. The use of local material is economical as well as eco- friendly. Due to increase in population and need of houses, the building construction industry, has developed fast, and to meet up with the material requirement the industrial revolution sped the process with introduction of factory made materials. With this revolution the use of synthetic products, mainly from petrochemical sources are in practice.
      The industries, are now moved on from natural materials to synthetic products, and had considerably affected the environmental safety and health criteria. These products make the house so tight that good air circulation cannot be achieved and also many of the products add harmful chemicals into the air called out gassing.
      The houses made out of natural material are not airtight. Their "skin" is made up of walls, ceiling and floor is actually its breathing skin. Weighing the merits and demerits of various materials has become a complex. As you know, that synthetic clothes are harmful for our health. Hence, such information is generally unknown or suppressed by the manufacturers and supporters. Therefore, the building material should have the following characteristics:

1. They should be clean and contain no pollutants or toxins, emit no biological harmful air, dust particles, smell, either in manufacturing or use. The materials should also be resistant to bacteria, virus, molds and other harmful micro- organisms.
2. They should be radio- actively safe and not emit any harmful levels of radiation.
3. They should be electromagnetic safe and not allow the conduction or build up of static electricity or emit harmful electric fields of any type.
4. Synthetic carpets build up static electricity. Brick, wood, stone etc. are healthy materials. Hence the materials to be used "should" meet up the following criteria-
   

• A. They should be energy efficient, using low energy in production, transport and should preferably be coming from local regions. Additional to it, they should be good energy conservers with high insulation value and retain heat in winter and keeps the home cool in summers.
  
• B. They should be durable, easy to maintain and repair, tested and tried over, in case of natural materials.
